On 22 March 2025, around forty NYI participants from across the Asia-Pacific Region gathered online via Zoom to learn about NYI’s purpose and ministry, led by Rev. David Gonzalez, NYI Global Director. This session, called NYI 101, was designed to support new NYI leaders and members while refreshing the knowledge of current NYI leaders on the fundamental aspects of NYI.
“After engaging with NYI leaders and Field Strategy Coordinators recently, I recognized a significant need for leadership development in the Asia-Pacific Region. To address this, I decided to revisit the basics of NYI, hence the creation of NYI 101,” explained Rev. Sharon Latu, AP Regional NYI Coordinator. “My goal is to continue working with our Field Youth Coordinators to support District Presidents and leaders in understanding the importance and the structure of NYI.”
The meeting began with a prayer led by Marilyn Arua, Field Youth Coordinator for the MSP Field, followed by an icebreaker activity where participants were invited to ‘virtually’ travel to Fiji and bring an item for the trip. Participants brought various items such as guitars, water bottles, and fans. After the icebreaker, Rev. David Gonzalez presented on NYI’s mission, vision, core values, and essential principles. He concluded by sharing valuable online resources and information on Global NYI events.
The presentation was highly informative, and participants had the opportunity to ask questions.
Mr. Jack Leo, National NYI President for PNG, remarked, “Thank you, Pastor David, for this insightful presentation. I realize that we sometimes become too traditional and fail to explore new opportunities for growth and development within NYI.”
NYI 101 marks the beginning of a series of virtual events aimed at equipping and training NYI leaders and members. These events will focus on both the significance of NYI and its foundational structure.
