Equipping emerging leaders through youth training camp

by | Nov 25, 2022

Cambodia – On 7-9 November 2022, the SEA Field youth ministry gathered 47 emerging youth leaders and pastors from local Nazarene churches in Cambodia for an NYI training camp. The training was a collaborative effort from the region, field, and district NYI.

The training camp was designed like a gaming experience, which was the same format as the Northern Thailand youth training held a couple of months ago. The participants engaged in various game experiences such as obstacles, cards, and dice. Various topics were offered, including discipleship, Christlike leadership, contextualization, and planning for the district’s first-ever NYI convention and district youth camp.

The youth leaders and pastors also shared time together during worship services. District Superintendent Rev. Shannon Smith and Rev. Seungyub shared the word of God. The camp concluded with a foot-washing led by Southeast Asia Field Youth Coordinators – Terence and Ingrid Lustana and the district leaders.

“One precious moment that deeply moved me was when one of our elderly pastors, in spite of his physical challenges, knelt on the ground with a towel and basin and served our young leaders by washing their feet. It was such a God moment. The Spirit’s work during the entire event was inspiring.” Shared Terence Lustana.

The training was an incredible experience for everyone involved. All participants praised the change of format and were motivated to create more evangelical outreaches geared toward youth. DS Shannon shared, “Youth in Cambodia has many challenges, but they are passionate about sharing the Gospel with their friends and neighbors. Some of them have even asked if they can visit other Nazarene churches and share what they learned during this training. This is what we want – multiplication of disciples and sharing so others can feel empowered and enabled to do the same.”

Pray that the Holy Spirit continues to move in and through the young people in this country. Pray for the DS, pastors, and leaders as they disciple the youth to continue God’s work in this beautiful nation.
