Cleveland Clinic, Ohio:  Kathy Radcliffe (Jim’s wife) has been providing the following updates following Dr. Jim’s open heart surgery:

21-Jul-2014 Update:

We are all praising God with the Radcliffe family as Dr. Jim has been discharged from the hospital.  He will continue recovery.  Please continue to keep the family in your prayers!

18-Jul-2014 Update:

We say to the Lord today:

“With my mouth (or e mail) will I make known Your faithfulness.”  Psalms  89:1

Dear Family of God,

You have surrounded us with prayer and God has given His presence and ordered our every step in this journey to healing Jim’s heart.
We are so humbled and grateful, and we know that your prayers have had many, many answers that we have seen and felt, and some that are unseen but with eternal significance.

I am thanking the Lord for the report I can give you this evening:

  • Successful move to a beautiful step down unit.
  • Surprise visits from people we have known or are connected with us in Nazarene family of God.
  • Christian doctors and chaplains stopping by to pray.
  • Jim was extubated at 2 AM this morning, the same time that I, Kathy, was awakened and praying (so happy to have the tube out and off the ventilator)
  • He was alert, talking, making his nurse smile with his clever comments and praying with me a prayer of praise for those who have cared for him.
  • The cardio thoracic fellow, and Dr. Svensson and Intensivist, Dr. Zahniser, have all been to see Jim; Dr. Svensson gave Jim a brief explanation of what he had seen in surgery: “significant aneurysm” is all I remember.

We are very, very, very thankful today and give God all the praise and glory for bringing us to this place!
Kathy

17-Jul-2014 Update:

“We have sensed your prayers all through the weeks and days.  We are thanking the Lord for His care and provision today.  I am thanking the Lord for each doctor, nurse, receptionist, transporter and others who have used their gift and abilities to help Jim as his heart is mended.

Jim’s surgeon said that the surgery went quite well, “without a hitch.”  As I entered for my first visit to see Jim, there was an Intensive Care Physician standing at the foot of Jim’s bed.  I thought to myself, “I should know this guy.”  It was Mark Zahniser, who had been in our teen Sunday School class at Columbus First Church…37 years ago!  We had no idea that he was an Intensivist at the Cleveland Clinic, but the Lord had him there for us and the other patients today…and tomorrow too!

As of 9pm, the day of the surgery, Jim is sill intubated and quite sedated.  He is still on the ventilator since there was some bleeding from the chest tube.  He has a slight fever, which is being treated.  It’s not unusual for patients to have a fever after surgery, but they are keeping a close watch on all of the parameters.

We do know who is our Great Physician as some of you have reminded us!

Trusting Him,

Kathy
