The Culbertsons and their call to missions in the Asia-Pacific

Manila, Philippines:  The Asia-Pacific Region is delighted to welcome back Glenn and Nancy Culbertson, who have responded to God’s call to serve overseas. The couple will be here on mission in the Philippines for the next eighteen months!

Glenn and Nancy have been happily living in Hood River, Oregon.  Nancy is a full-time English teacher in Second/Foreign Language. Glenn, on the other hand, is busy with his volunteer work at the church. He has written a devotional commentary book on the Epistle to the Ephesians. He was a representative for Voice of the Martyrs for six years, advocating for Christians who are being persecuted simply for their faith in Jesus. Furthermore, he was a regular contributor to Global Prayer Digest, a missions publication which describes and asks for prayer for various unreached people groups around the world.

However, in the recent years, they felt that God was calling them to serve abroad. With Nancy’s master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL and ESL),  the couple envisioned being assigned in one of several international schools, with Nancy teaching and Glenn serving as chaplain.

When Glenn and Nancy attended the Nazarene Cross-Cultural Orientation,  it became clear that God had a different plan for them. Towards the end of the program, and after praying long and hard for God to lead them to the right path, the couple decided to go to a country in the Asia-Pacific where they felt their talents could be put to good use for His glory: the Philippines.

Inspired with God’s mission, the couple set out to the Philippines, which also happens to be Nancy’s home country as well. They have accepted a double assignment.  Nancy will be teaching three courses in the field of language acquisition and functional English at Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary (APNTS) when the next session begins, while Glenn will assist our compassionate ministries.

In November, they will start their one year assignment in La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines, at Philippine Nazarene College (PNC),  where Nancy will teach a variety of English classes. Glenn, on the other hand, will serve as Philippine Field Office (PFO) chaplain, while teaching a couple of classes each term.

The Region is very thankful to the Culbertsons for committing themselves to serve Christ and His people in the Philippines. Let us continue to pray for the couple, that they may be given focus, strength and wisdom as they embark on this journey to missions.
