On 11 April 2026, a joyful atmosphere and a strong sense of sisterhood filled the Nehemia Church of the Nazarene in Papua during the group vocal competition organized by the Nazarene Women’s International Fellowship (PWNI-NWL). Marking its first-ever staging in the Papua District, the event was initiated to strengthen the unity of Nazarene women through music and shared worship.
Nine teams participated in the competition, comprising three teams from the Jayapura City zone and six teams from the Jayapura Regency zone. Each group delivered heartfelt praise, combining vocal strength, unity, and a heartfelt spiritual message. Beyond competition, the event also served as a platform to witness faith through music, as each participant conveyed the love of Christ through harmonious vocals.
The enthusiasm of the participants and the congregation was palpable throughout the event. Cheers of support, applause, and a warm atmosphere created an unforgettable experience. The objective judging panel ultimately determined the winners. First place went to Imanuel Kotaraja, followed by Nehemia Abepura in second place, and El Viktor Kotaraja in third place.
Beyond just the competition results, this event is expected to bring deeper meaning to women’s ministry in the Church of The Nazarene, especially in the Papua District. The Nazarene Woman in Leadership sees this event as a first step in opening more opportunities for women’s development. Through activities like this, women’s potential can be fully developed, whether in the arts, leadership, or spiritual ministry. Mrs. Christa Vanessa Urbinas, President of NWL Papua District, stated, “Through this activity, we want to strengthen the bond of sisterhood among Nazarene women and encourage a spirit of service in their respective churches. This is the first time we have held this activity. Participants came from local Nazarene churches in Jayapura Regency and the city. We are grateful for all participants’ sportsmanship. To those who won, continue developing your talents to glorify God. To those who did not win, stay motivated and keep practicing.”
It is hoped that this group vocal competition will not be a mere activity but will become an ongoing program that strengthens the bonds of sisterhood and strengthens the unity of the body of Christ. Together, Nazarene women are called to continue growing, serving, leading in ministry, and being a light within the congregation and community. May the harmony created in praise continue to resonate in daily life, glorifying God’s name.
