Manila, Philippines: Members of the Regional Course of Study Advisory Committee (RCOSAC) for the Asia-Pacific Region gathered for their annual two-day meeting at the Monaco Hotel on 21–22 August 2026. Chaired by Dr. Bruce Allder, Asia-Pacific Regional Education Coordinator, the meeting brought together RCOSAC members and regional leaders to review and discuss important developments in the Course of Study and the future of theological education across the region.
The meeting included Regional Director Dr. Kafoa Muaror and RCOSAC members Dr. Linda Stargel, Rev. Leilani Roqara, Dr. Oh Won Keun, Dr. Seri Damarwanti, Pastor Mark Eugenio, Dr. Stephen Wang, Rev. Eddie Morales, and Lisa Lehman. Dr. Ray Neu and Dr. Karen Garber-Miller served as invited speakers. Guests who joined the meeting included Mupe Kaupa, FSC Satish Manmothe, Rev. Stephen Gualberto, Dr. Bonnie Perry, and Dr. Eileen Ruger. FSC Rev. Satish Manmothe and Rev. Stephen Gualberto also represented the Asia-Pacific Region in discussions related to orality.
Key areas discussed included the sustainability of theological education, the use of orality in delivering the Course of Study, micro-credentialing, accessible teaching resources, and opportunities for greater regional collaboration. The committee also considered the challenges of incorporating new approaches while maintaining the quality assurance required for a validated Course of Study.
A significant part of the discussion focused on developing orality as a delivery system for the Course of Study and the need for a unified approach. The committee explored current challenges and possible solutions to improve accessibility while maintaining educational standards. Discussions also included developing a Teaching Resource Hub and the potential use of strategic hubs and regional faculty to support IBOE-recognized institutions throughout the Asia-Pacific Region.
The gathering provided an important opportunity for RCOSAC members to work together in shaping the direction of theological education in a region marked by diverse cultures, languages, educational contexts, and ministry needs. Through collaboration and shared wisdom, the committee continues to seek creative and sustainable ways to equip the Church and its leaders.
The meeting concluded with fellowship as the members spent time together bowling and sharing dinner, celebrating not only the work accomplished but also the relationships that strengthen their shared ministry.
