Indonesian Local Church Leads Compassionate Ministry in Central Kalimantan

by | Mar 14, 2025

Central Kalimantan, Indonesia: The Church of the Nazarene in Philadelfia, Palangkaraya through its local church Nazarene Compassionate Ministries and Nazarene Missions International reached out to a community in Jalan Lingkar Luar, Gang Ram Mangkikit for a 2-day outreach on 18 to 19 February 2025. The community outreach included a medical check-up and the distribution of medicines and vitamins, food, milk, and bottled water to children. They also gave away clothing. Around 23 people from the community were served during this mission endeavor.

Rev. Agnes, the senior pastor of Philadelfia Church, had the opportunity to pray for those who came. She prayed that God would give them strength to face and overcome their struggles. She also shared the Word of God with the people in the community, including the children.

Dr. Clarissa Ester shared her experience in this mission: “As we conducted our medical check-up, we discovered many children and elderly have poor health conditions, and many are suffering from coughs, colds, fevers, stomachaches, and other illnesses. We hope that after providing this initial treatment, the children and elderly will become healthier, grow stronger physically and in their faith, and be able to come to church and give thanks to God. I am so blessed to be part of this compassionate ministry.”

The Church of the Nazarene Philadelfia is a wonderful example of how a local church serves its community. That compassion doesn’t have to be a large project or program; it’s about going out from our church and becoming a blessing to the surrounding community through acts of love. This is what it means to “make compassion a lifestyle.”
