On 30 September to 7 October 2024, The Nazarene Mission International of the Java-Bali District coordinated by Rev. Darmanto carried out an act of love by collecting new toothbrushes that would be donated to the Kudjip Nazarene Hospital in Papua New Guinea. With the help of local churches, they collected 2,183 toothbrushes.
May people were surprised on how this initiative turned out. Some of us might think of donation as big or luxurious items, but NMI realized that even with a toothbrush, they can create an extraordinary impact to other people. With a toothbrush, someone live a healthy life, take good care of their teeth, and even keep them away from other serious diseases.
What is interesting is that not only did the donation come from a member of the Nazarene Church, but there was also a donation from a non-Nazarene Women’s Fellowship, namely the Happy Women’s Prayer Fellowship, which donated the most toothbrushes among the other donors.
Rev. Darmanto said: “Starting from my involvement in the NMI and NCM ministries, I often saw the need in various places for clean water, sanitation, environmental health, and nutrition for children. I got a lot of information about Nazarene ministries in various places through NCM Magazine and Holinesstoday, including Nazarene Ministry in PNG with the Nursing School and Hospital in Kudjip, which serve the community there. When I got the news that NMI Regional was holding a Toothbrush Donation Project to be donated to the Nazarene Hospital Kudjip PNG, we immediately took part. As the NMI District President representing Java-Bali District, I gave thanks to God and said thank you for being allowed to take part in this project; in approximately two weeks, we collected 2,183 toothbrushes. May our small steps from this local church bless the Church of the Nazarene globally. We are Nazarene. Lord Jesus Bless.“
