Volcano Erupts – Prayer Request for Nazarenes in Papua New Guinea!

by | Aug 30, 2014

East New Britain, Papua New Guinea:   On Friday, August 29, Guinea’s Tavurvur Volcano erupted sending a cloud of ash across this South Pacific nation.   Residents are being evacuated from the immediate area and it is reported that flights have been disrupted.

UPDATE AT END OF STORY

Screenshot 2014-08-30 13.00.56Harmon and Cindy Schmelzenbach, Melanesia South Pacific Field Strategy Coordinators send the following prayer request.

“Please pray for our Nazarene brothers and sisters in Kokopo and Rabaul in East New Britain, PNG as they have been preparing for the upcoming District Assembly.”

These are definitely times when committed prayer warriors are needed.  Please commit to praying for our Nazarenes and non-Nazarenes alike in Papua New Guinea as well as to sharing this prayer request with your churches, friends, and family.

Many times it is in the midst of such natural disasters that we have the opportunity to share the true author of peace!

There is power in prayer!

1-Sep-14 Update – Harmon Schmelzenbach

The volcano eruption in Rabaul, East New Britain, Papua New Guinea is not far from where we had the last New Guinea Islands District Assembly right across the bay at Kokopo and then our District Superintendent and spouse retreat for all 12 PNG Nazarene Districts earlier this year.

apng29eWe thank The Lord that the Nazarenes from this area are not reporting any injuries and even though there is significant disruption and mess, everyone is working hard at clean up and praying for a return to normal life.
