Update on David Phillips’ Cancer Journey

by | Sep 4, 2015

Columbus, Ohio:  We continue to keep prayer focused on Rev. David Phillips, Southeast Asia Field Strategy Coordinator, as he is receiving treatment in the United States.

David provided this update on September 4th:

“I am now in my 10th day since my first Chemo. Day by day I am getting stronger. I found myself waking up after 6 hours of sleep for the past few days. I stayed up for the past 4 days without a nap. I have not done that for a very long time! For many years in the past, 5 to 6 hours of sleep a night was very normal for me. (I used to be accused by the Filipino pastors of not sleeping). Over the past few months or a year I have been sleeping 7 to 9 hours a night plus naps! I was not realizing how sick I was becoming. Naomi said that she was seeing this but did not know what to do. When I caught a virus last March I thought I would recover quickly but it turned into pneumonia and took me until May to sort of recover. I can see now that I was dying and did not even know. I am not yet 100% but I am at 85 to 90% of my former strength. God our Father saved me from death!

I am reviewing these because I feel really good! I am stronger than I have been for a long long time and just feel good! I am returning to exercise (walked a mile yesterday with ankle weights, slowly..) and my interest in prayer, intercession and working in prayer is increasing and returning. I keep finding interesting things to do. Naomi and I have been adopted by our local church. Good friends have provided us with a house, car, furniture, food and gift cards! One of our friends saw Naomi at the store and stepped in line behind her and insisted on paying for her stuff. They keep telling us “It’s your turn now…”

Naomi is enjoying our children and grand children. She has been cooking and I have enjoyed the food! I stood in the kitchen just yesterday and looking around at gifts of sacks of apples, tomatoes, good ground beef in the freezer, plus Naomi’s home baked chocolate chip cookies, I felt at home, at rest and at peace.

We still have financial challenges ahead but those are becoming clearer and there have been many offers to help.

Thank you so much for praying! God is answering prayer!”

Please continue to keep David and Naomi Phillips in your prayers!
