Taipei, Taiwan – 21 June 2025: Taiwan Nazarene Theological College (or TNTC) saw a record-breaking graduating class this year with 18 graduates.
After a ten-year closure due to low enrollment, Taiwan Nazarene Theological College (TNTC) reopened in 2015, responding to a renewed sense of mission to train future pastors and church leaders within the Church of the Nazarene. Under the leadership of President Dr. Steven Wang, the institution has experienced significant growth and development.
Today, TNTC serves more than 250 students representing six countries across three continents. The college offers certificates, bachelor’s, and master’s programs, and its recent expansion into online theological education has allowed it to extend its reach even further. With a growing emphasis on providing Chinese-language Course of Study programs, TNTC is positioning itself as a vital training center for the global Chinese-speaking Nazarene community.
On Saturday, June 21, Dr. Steven Wang, President of TNTC, welcomed over 100 attendees, including pastors, mentors, and the graduates’ loved ones.
The commencement address was delivered by Dr. James Wu, former president of The Methodist Graduate School of Theology. In his sermon, Dr. Wu challenged the graduates to imitate Christ, not as hired hands, but as faithful shepherds willing to lay down their lives for the flock. He emphasized the importance of being Christ-centered leaders in a time often dominated by self-centered values.
Also speaking was District Superintendent Joshua Huang, who shared a commissioning message titled “A New Ministry.” He reminded the graduates to remain anchored in their divine calling while also leading the Church into the future with renewed vision and creativity to meet the unique needs of today’s generation.
The service concluded with a formal commissioning of the graduates. Of the 18, 16 will minister within the Church of the Nazarene across Taiwan, one is preparing to serve in Hong Kong, and another in an independent church in Taiwan, strengthening the church’s mission and presence in local communities.
The two-hour ceremony was not only a time of celebration, but a powerful reminder of the role theological education plays in shaping leaders who will proclaim the Gospel and pastor with compassion in a complex and diverse world.
Please pray for TNTC as it applies for full validation as a Course of Study for ordination in the Church of the Nazarene this year and accreditation in future years. Pray for wisdom and resource development for school administration, especially Dr Wang. Also, pray for the students, including the recent graduates, that they would have a kingdom impact in their communities where they minister.
