Nazarene Pastor and Wife Succumb to Ebola Virus – Call for Worldwide Prayer!

by | Oct 11, 2014

West Africa:  The Church of the Nazarene has been deeply impacted this week by the world’s worst outbreak of the Ebola Virus in recorded history.

On October 7th, the following release came from the Global Prayer Mobilization Line:

Pastor Joe & Hannah Sonkpah

Pastor Joe & Hannah Sonkpah

Please pray for the family of Hannah Sonkpah who passed away on October 6 in a Liberia treatment center after contracting the Ebola virus. Hannah had been helping people in her community when in an attempt to assist a pregnant woman, she became infected with Ebola. Hannah was the wife of Pastor Joe Sonkpah, senior pastor of Grace Church of the Nazarene in Liberia. Pray for the Sonkpah family, the Grace Church family, and for the thousands of people who are suffering from this disease.

Then today, October 11th, we received this heartbreaking news:

Joe Sonkpah, senior pastor of the Grace Church in Liberia, has passed away from Ebola. Earlier this week we learned that Joe’s wife, Hannah, passed away from the same virus on October 6. Pastor Joe and his children were in quarantine this week. Please pray for the Sonkpah’s family, the children Joe and Hannah leave behind, their friends, and the congregation of Grace Church. May the Lord be your comfort and strength.

We MUST as a global church, commit to pray for our Nazarene brothers and sisters in Liberia, as well as for all of those who are being impacted by this deadly outbreak.    PLEASE PRAY!
