It is with heavy hearts, yet holding firmly to the hope of the Resurrection, that the Asia-Pacific Region joins the Papua New Guinea Field in announcing the passing of Rev. Ako Arua, District Superintendent of PNG – Central District.
Rev. Arua was a loyal servant of Christ and a pillar of strength for the Church of the Nazarene in Port Moresby and across the country, from impactful youth ministry to pastoring to jumpstarting the Nazarene radio ministry to leading the South Coast District to becoming, yet again, a pioneer for the Kingdom as an instrumental part of creating the Central District. He faithfully shepherded this flock, serving as the District Superintendent (DS) from its very creation until his passing. His leadership laid the groundwork for a legacy that will continue to bear fruit for generations to come.
He was preceded to glory by his beloved wife, Rev. Lily. While we mourn his loss, we celebrate that he is survived by their caring children—Marilyn, Maria, Ozka, Margaret, and countless more he and Lily loved and cared for—and their families, who carry forward his spirit of devotion.
Capturing the essence of his vibrant faith, his daughter Marilyn touchingly shared the news of his passing: “He has gone to be with the Maker he joyfully preaches and sings about.”
Reflecting on his immense contribution to the church, PNG Field Strategy Coordinator Rev. Peniperite Fakaua offered this tribute:
“His life was exemplary of Christlikeness and faithful service to the people of God and the community. Superintendent Arua’s years of guidance and leadership left a lasting legacy of compassion, devotion, and inspiration. He’ll be remembered for his unwavering dedication and the humility he showed to everyone he led. His influence will continue to inspire and shape the lives of those he touched.”
The global Nazarene family extends its deepest condolences and prayers to the Arua family and the Central District during this time of mourning. We honor his legacy and rejoice in the assurance that he is now in the presence of the Savior he served so faithfully.
“His Lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.’” Matthew 25:21 NKJV
