On 16-23 December 2024, the NYI Mission Trip Team of the Aletheia Nazarene Church of the Nazarene, Papua-Indonesia, led by Ranny Martha Bandaso, departed to carry out a mission in Sorong City, in collaboration with the El-Shadai Church Of The Nazarene in Sorong City with Rev. Agus Triyono as Local Pastor. The team comprises 16 young men and women from the Aletheia Church Of The Nazarene.
This is the second mission trip that NYI Aletheia has carried out. The team has prepared themselves throughout 2024 with various fundraising efforts by washing congregation vehicles on Sundays, selling food, and various other fundraising actions to support this mission trip program, as well as collaborating with the Nazarene Mission Team (NMT) Sealands Field. This program aims to introduce the world of missions to young people, not only seeing but actively carrying out mission actions in society while making Christlike disciples. The chosen area is Sorong. Sorong is a region on the island of Papua, located in the northern part of Papua Island, and there is a local church of the Nazarene in the area, which is a partner in this team. The journey to Sorong is not easy because the team has to take a ship for approximately 1 day to arrive in Sorong from Sentani, Jayapura.
The activities carried out during this mission trip include the service to the Sunday School Christmas at El-Shadai Church. Providing teaching curriculum and Kids Ministry story books, Providing gifts for children, Providing a Jesus Film video material. Youth Christmas Service and Serving the Worship of the El-Shadai Church
Erica, one of the young women who participated in this mission trip, shared her testimony: “This year’s ministry in Sorong has blessed me. There were many obstacles and challenges before our departure to Sorong, but God proved that we could because of His blessings. Before our departure, I felt blessed by God because every process until we boarded the ship, God continued to help. In this mission taught me that as God’s children we should be “sensitive” to each other and not only sensitive but also there must be “action” to do God’s work. The thing that blessed me personally was when the children’s church Christmas service. I am indeed a children’s church teacher, so when I saw the condition of the Sunday school there, I was blessed. Although they lack of facilities and infrastructure, the Sunday school children were enthusiastic, they could even worship and listen to the story of God’s word obediently and calmly. When I saw the toddlers there they were very calm and obedient and even focused on listening to God’s Word and were enthusiastic in praising God. When we provided Sunday school facilities and materials there, I could see the smiles and happiness of the Sunday school teachers there, and this made me touched and very blessed. I hope that what we give can bless and can be used as well as possible for God’s work.”
May the Lord bless these young people and continue their heart for missions.
