With heartfelt remembrance and gratitude, we reflect on the life and ministry of Rev. Nemie Dagandan Babao, whose unwavering commitment to faith and service has profoundly impacted the Church of the Nazarene and the communities he served. Born on July 6, 1961, Rev. Babao’s journey in ministry began in 1982 when he entered Bible College, answering God’s call to serve. Over the decades, he dedicated himself entirely to spreading the Gospel, guiding souls, and nurturing the spiritual growth of countless individuals.
In 1987, Rev. Babao graduated with a Bachelor of Theology from Visayan Nazarene Bible College (VNBC). While studying, he also served at Passi Church of the Nazarene in Iloilo under the leadership of Rev. Elma Mago, where his passion for ministry grew. His heart for pastoral work led him to serve for one year as a pastor in the Panay District before pursuing further theological education.
Rev. Babao’s theological journey continued at Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary (APNTS) in 1988, where he pursued a Master of Divinity. During his seminary years, he became a member of the Singing Seminarians, who were honored to perform at the General Assembly in Indianapolis, Indiana,
U.S.A. in 1989. His musical ministry was just one expression of his deep devotion to God’s work. He graduated with his Master of Divinity in April 1991, marking the next chapter of his ministry.
After graduating, Rev. Babao began pioneering a church in Roxas City, a mission he faithfully carried out from 1991 to 1994. In May 1993, he married Rev. Ana Maria Gabrido Babao, and together, they raised two children, A.N. Jireh
G. Babao and N. Restian June G. Babao. In June 1994, he was called as the Senior Pastor of Enclaro Church of the Nazarene, a position he held until December 2008. Under his leadership, the congregation’s spiritual life was nurtured.
In 2001, Rev. Babao was elected District Superintendent of the Negros District, a role he held with distinction until 2022. During his tenure, he worked tirelessly to plant churches, expand the reach of the Church of the Nazarene, and equip leaders for ministry across the region.
From 2008 to 2023, Rev. Babao served as the Senior Pastor of Bacolod Church of the Nazarene, continuing his mission of shepherding the flock and strengthening the faith of many. His influence in the church extended beyond his pastoral role as he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) at VNBC, guiding the institution with wisdom and faith.
Rev. Nemie D. Babao’s legacy is one of deep faith, dedicated service, and an unwavering commitment to God’s call. Through church planting, pastoral leadership, and theological contributions, he shaped the lives of many, and his impact will be felt for generations to come.
Even though he has passed, his legacy endures in the hearts of those he served and mentored. His example of living out God’s calling with passion and humility will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.
As the Apostle Paul declared, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7) This verse perfectly reflects the life and ministry of Rev. Nemie D. Babao—a faithful servant who has completed his journey with unwavering devotion to God.
