Bicol, Philippines:  At around 1 PM on January 22, Mayon Volcano in the province of Albay in the Philippines erupted anew with heavy ash fall. Located approximately 200 miles southeast of Manila, Mount Mayon is on the Bicol District for the Church of the Nazarene.

Known for its perfect cone shape, Mount Mayon is the most active volcano in the Philippines and has been spewing ash, mud, and rocks since mid-January. Experts believe its geology and location “could soon combine in explosive, and deadly, fashion.”

Several cities and municipalities around the volcano are heavily affected. There are Nazarene churches in two of the greatly affected areas: the City of Ligao and Municipality of Polangui. The Field and District Nazarene Compassionate Ministry coordinators are on site to conduct rapid assessment and visit affected areas.

Pray for the safety of the assessment teams and for the communities being impacted by the eruptions.
