What Happens When the Healer Needs Healing? God Provides…This Time Through an Olivet Nazarene University Team.

by | May 30, 2015

Kudjip, Papua New Guinea:  For the past 30 years these hands have been the hands that have provided healing to thousands of patients in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea.  They have stopped bleeding, removed cancer, delivered babies, straightened bones, reconnected tendons, removed infections, sutured lacerations and more.  They have also folded in prayer over many patients that have had surgery at Kudjip Nazarene Hospital.

For years these hands have been going numb and have had some trouble in long surgeries, but most recently, the numbness has been constant and even the most basic functions they had been performing for years, were becoming very challenging.   These are the hands of Dr. Jim Radcliffe, mission surgeon at Kudjip Nazarene Hospital for more than 30 years.

What happens when the hands of the healer need healing, the Great Physician provides…and His timing is always perfect!

Dr. Mike Pyle, a former Nazarene Missionary in Swaziland who has done a number of carpal tunnel surgeries, recently arrived at Kudjip Nazarene Hospital, leading a volunteer team from Olivet Nazarene University (ONU).

After reviewing Dr. Jim’s case, Dr. Mike put his hands of healing on Jim, prayed for the surgery and then went to work relieving the compression on Jim’s median nerve which was causing his carpal tunnel syndrome.  Praise God the surgery went very well, the numbness has already gone down, and Jim expects to be using his hands in healing once again very soon.

Over the past five years, Dr. Mike and wife Nancy have been bringing teams of ONU students to Kudjip for mission experience.  The students work on service projects such as painting or building along with building relationships with the national staff.  Additionally, the students shadow doctors, help out in the pharmacy, and spend time with the hospital chaplains.  Many of the students are pursuing medical education in some form, and have an expressed interest in missions.   This year’s team was comprised of 22, including Mike and Nancy.

Praise God for His perfect timing and provision.  Thank you to Dr. Mike and the ONU team for your willingness to make the sacrifice to travel to a distant land in order to serve as the tangible hands and feet of our Lord.

Please continue to keep Dr. Jim in your prayers,  that his recovery would be complete.
