After the military coup in 2021, Myanmar has faced severe civil war in all regions. This crisis continually drives citizens to neighboring countries. It is estimated that 15 million Myanmar people are in exile. Nearly 10 million migrants have migrated to Thailand, and 70% of them are undocumented. Many of them are homeless because almost 200,000 houses were burned down in the civil war. Many also left the country due to military conscription. Many Nazarene members also left the country for their safety and lost their homes and properties. These people badly need to connect with their home churches in Myanmar. They need to continue to walk in the journey of grace wherever they are.
After the Field Strategy Coordinator appointed Jubilee in October 2024 as a coordinator for the Myanmar Diaspora Ministry, he visited Nazarene members in Bangkok and Mae Sot and refugee camps in border areas. A few Nazarenes were reconnected and recruited a Jesus Film Team. These few leaders also invited their friends to continually walk on the journey of grace, even in the most challenging circumstances. They were intentionally trained, equipped, and discipled in-person and online to reach Myanmar migrant communities. These leaders were recruited to study at the CIC Mobile Education Program. After 5 months, three mission-type churches were organized by District Superintendent Rev. Ram Neih Thang on 16 March 2025. Pastor Moe Soe Tun was installed for Peniel Nazarene Church in Mae Sot, Pastor Naw Ka Phaw was installed for Mae Lar Fellowship of the Nazarene Church in the largest refugee camp, and Pastor Sadar Moe was installed for Joshua House Church of the Nazarene in Mae Sot. The Jesus Film team also opened five preaching points among non-Christian communities. They expect to organize more Myanmar churches in Mae Sot and Pattaya in the following months.
In the second week of April, there will be a salvation camp for new people and pastoral leadership training for local and district licensed ministers. Please continually pray for the journey of grace that takes place in the most challenging location.
