Greetings, Global Mission team!

I’m very pleased to announce that Rev. Dr. Nell Becker Sweeden will join Global Mission as the director of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) on June 27, 2016, and will be relocating to Kansas City this September.

In addition, the board of NCM Inc. unanimously voted to elect Nell as CEO. We believe that her leadership over both areas of NCM will continue to build a great level of synergy for this ministry of the Church of the Nazarene.

Nell has served in various capacities with NCM over the past 12 years, most recently as education coordinator. Her areas of expertise include international development, educational initiatives, and theology. While serving as education coordinator, Nell also served as assistant professor of theology and Richard B. Parker co-chair of Wesleyan Theology at George Fox Evangelical Seminary.

Her recent accomplishments have included the publication of Church on the Way: Hospitality and Migration.

Nell studied Spanish and theology at Point Loma Nazarene University and holds a Master of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary. Additionally, Nell completed her Doctor of Philosophy at Boston University in practical theology with specializations in Wesleyan theology and church and society.

Nell is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene.

I am deeply appreciative of the gift that Nell has been to our church. She has the unique ability to bring clarity around the connection of what we believe theologically and how we lovingly serve the world. This practical engagement demonstrates not only Nell’s training but also her genuine heart for the church and relentless pursuit of the heart of Christ. I am excited for Nell’s leadership, for the ways in which she will bring great expression to why we serve, why we love, and why we follow the Nazarene. As Nell was concluding her process of discernment, she shared with me how this opportunity has brought her back to the core of her vocational calling. Praise the Lord! It has been thrilling to see the way God has led Nell to accepting this role, and I look forward to the ways God will continue to use her to lead Nazarene Compassionate Ministries.

Join me as we pray for Nell’s transition, pray for her family as they move to Kansas City, celebrate her arrival, and welcome her to our team!

넬 베커 스위든(Rev. Dr. Nell Becker Sweeden) 목사님이자 박사님이 2016년 6월 27일부로 나사렛 긍휼사역(Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM)) 디렉터로 세계 선교국에 합류하고, 9월에 캔사스 시티로 이사할 것을 알리게 되어 기쁘게 생각합니다.

또한 주식회사 나사렛 긍휼사역 이사회는 만장일치로 넬을 CEO로 선임했습니다. 나사렛 긍휼 사역의 두 분야에 대한 그녀의 리더십은 나사렛 교단의 이 사역을 위해 많은 수준의 시너지 효과를 계속적으로 만들어 나갈 것입니다.

넬은 지난 12년간 나사렛 긍휼사역의 다양한 분야에서 섬겨왔고 최근에는 교육 간사로 일했습니다. 그녀의 전문 분야는 국제 개발, 교육 개발, 신학입니다. 교육 간사로 섬기는 동안 넬은 조지 팍스 복음 신학 대학원에서 조교수와 웨슬리 신학 리차드 파커 공동의장으로도 일했습니다. 최근의 업적 중에는 『도상의 교회: 자선과 이민』(Church on the Way: Hospitality and Migration)이라는 책의 출판이 있습니다.

넬은 포인트 로마 대학교에서 스페인어와 신학을 공부했고 나사렛 신학 대학원에서 신학 석사(Master of Divinity) 학위를 받았습니다. 또한 보스톤 대학교에서 실천 신학으로 철학박사 학위를 마쳤고 전공영역은 웨슬리 신학과 교회와 사회입니다. 넬은 나사렛 교단에서 목사안수를 받았습니다.

넬이 우리 교단을 위해 봉사한 재능으로 인해 깊이 감사 드립니다. 그녀에게는 우리가 신학적으로 믿는 것과 사랑으로 세계를 섬기는 것을 연결시키는 일을 명확하게 하는 데 특별한 능력이 있습니다. 이 실제적 능력은 넬의 훈련뿐 아니라 교회를 위한 열정과 그리스도의 마음을 따르는 일에 있어 주저함 없는 실천을 보여줍니다. 그녀의 리더십을 통해 우리가 왜 봉사하는지, 왜 사랑하는지, 왜 예수님을 따르는지에 대해 그녀가 보여줄 것을 생각할 때 마음이 흥분됩니다. 심사숙고를 마칠 무렵 그녀는 이 기회가 어떻게 자신을 소명의 핵심으로 다시 불렀는지 제게 말했습니다. 주님을 찬양합니다! 이 사역을 수락하기까지 하나님께서 넬을 인도하신 것을 생각하면 놀랍습니다. 그리고 나사렛 긍휼사역을 이끌기 위해 하나님께서 그녀를 어떻게 사용하실까를 기대합니다.

넬이 이 사역을 위해 옮기는 과정과, 그녀의 가족들이 캔사스 시티로 이사하는 것을 위해 기도해 주시고 그녀의 부임을 기뻐하며 우리 팀으로 환영하는 일에 저와 동참해 주시기 바랍니다.
